Outdoor family photography is an excellent way to capture the beauty of nature and the joy of spending time with loved ones. Whether you are planning a family reunion, celebrating a special occasion, or simply want to capture some precious moments, there are many options available to suit your needs. One of the best things about outdoor family photography is the versatility it offers. You can choose a location that reflects your family's personality, interests, and style.

For example, if you want to capture the beauty of nature, a park or botanical garden may be a great choice. The Botanic Garden at Olds College, as shown in this blog post, is a great location that offers a variety of natural settings, including lush gardens, serene ponds, and majestic trees. This location provides good backdrops for capturing family portraits that are both timeless and beautiful .

When it comes to formal family photos, you may want to consider working with a professional photographer who specializes in this type of photography. To create attractive and consistent portraits outdoors, being able to effectively use studio lighting on-location and outside can be really important to getting good shots you'll want to frame on your wall.

Outdoor studio lighting for formal portraits can be achieved using a variety of techniques and equipment, such as reflectors, diffusers, and the strobes themselves. The key to doing it effectively, is knowing how to balance those with the natural ambient light to create something that looks realistic and not too artificial. A professional photographer will know the best lighting setup to suit your needs and the location you choose.

Here at Studio Lumen, we offer a range of Family Photography, that is always tailored to your needs. We can help you create the perfect family portrait, whether you prefer a traditional, formal style or a more relaxed, candid approach. We can go to a park near you, one of your family member's homes, or in our studio.

When it comes to family photography, the key is to find a style that reflects your family's personality and interests. Whether you prefer formal family photos or candids, there are many options available to suit your needs. With the help of a professional photographer, you can create beautiful, lasting memories that your family will treasure for years to come.

Several times we have photographed families with three generations - what can be better and more meaningful than capturing the relationship between grandparent and grandchild? Nothing lasts forever, except for the photos.

Here at Studio Lumen, we do portraits for all kinds of different people.  From lawyers, coaches, real estate agents, and financial experts through to health professionals, including doctors.  Recently we have done headshots for a nephrologist, a geneticist, and an infectious diseases expert.

As a physician, your professional image is important. Patients often form their first impressions of you based on your online presence and the materials you share with them.  In addition, your headshot can be used for your other professional obligations, such as attending conferences, or working with other health professionals who may not yet know you.

One of the key components of this image is your professional headshot. A professional headshot can communicate a lot about who you are. It conveys your level of professionalism, your approachability, and what kind of personality someone can expect.

Here are some reasons why a high-quality headshot is so important for physicians:

  • Establishing trust with patients: Patients are more likely to trust a physician who looks professional and approachable. A professional headshot can help convey your competence and build trust with potential patients.
  • Establishing trust with colleagues and the medical community as a whole: When you attend a conference, or need to work with colleagues from around the country, having a naturally done headshot that conveys who you are is helpful for them to see your credibility. At a conference for example, a good headshot can help people feel comfortable or encouraged to come to your presentation or feel more comfortable simply to come up and talk to you!
  • Reflecting your personality: A professional headshot can also be an opportunity to show your personality and approachability. A warm and friendly headshot can make patients feel more comfortable and at ease when they meet you in person, and colleagues get a sense of who you are before you have to work with them
  • Enhancing your credibility: A high-quality headshot can enhance your credibility, generally speaking. It shows that you take your profession seriously and that you're committed to presenting yourself in the best possible light.

Overall, a professional headshot is an essential investment for any physician who wants to establish trust with patients and colleagues, and provide some humanity and reassurance to patients, who often come to you in times of need.

Brittany and Jessie met on Tinder (!) about 5 years before they got married.  This Brady Bunch of a couple (at the time of their wedding they had 4 kids combined), had a beautiful day for their Rocky Mountain House wedding, in and around the Hall at the North Saskatchewan River Park.

For their wedding photography, they really wanted some classic photos, and to bring back the feelings of their wedding day forever - that is, they wanted to look like themselves in their pictures, so they could imagine just how it felt, long after the moments had passed!  But they also wanted a lot of flexibility with the coverage - their custom 4h or so wedding photography pacakage fit the bill.

Having their portraits in a variety of places around their venue was really helpful with getting the variety of shots they can use to tell the story of their day in an eventual album and in prints. Our photographer Jeff's natural and fun style fit perfectly.

After receiving their photos two months after their wedding Brittany wrote back 'Ahh, we are in love with our photos even from just doing a quick glance at them 🥰 Thank you so much.  We really enjoyed our day with you guys, wish we could do it again!'

A photographer never tires of hearing that their work will be treasured and enjoyed for decades to come!

Kaytlyn and Bob inquired with us in August of 2021, for their small town farm wedding in July 2022.  Having known each other for 7 years already, it was about time they got married!  Delayed for one year by the pandemic, they were excited to tie the knot!

They both grew up in small town southern Alberta, but only met in college - through Instagram of all things!  Their first date was in the coulees of Lethbridge, with some accidental private fireworks to celebrate the occasion - a good omen for their relationship right from the start.

What's the glue that holds these guys together? They've got different personalities - that complement each other - and they have a tonne of common interests, like biking, camping, hiking, and being in the outdoors in general...hence their beautiful outdoor farm wedding!

These two entrepreneurs were super fun to work with, and I only wish that we could have all been at their wedding.  Not to mention running their own businesses (she's a registered massage therapist, he runs the Nanton Candy Store), they catered their own BBQ - with a pig roast, just like Jean-Marc - and did all their own florals and hair and makeup.  Her beautiful dress came from Durand Bridal and their band was Adequate....but actually super awesome and made their event extra special.

Enjoy these pictures of Kaytlyn & Bob's wedding.
